"Booker TV" Promo

Here's a look behind the scenes of Booker TV, a program produced by the film and video club of
Booker T. Washington Arts MagnetHigh School in Dallas.

iMedia Youth Channel provides a creative outlet for talented young filmmakers and serves as a lighthouse for positive media messages. Young people, ages 9 -17, learn the processes involved in public access media: the basics of video production, research, scriptwriting, and post-production for field and studio programs.

Through youth channel programs young people will improve critical thinking skills, become better prepared for the requirements of higher education, the workplace, and leadership. Most importantly, this initiative responds to an overabundance of violent and profane commercial television programming aimed at the youth market.

Initially, the Youth Channel will occupy before and after school blocks of programming. As more youth programming is developed, the blocks will expand until the Youth Channel is 24/7.

iMedia Youth Channel 96 -- Line-up includes:

iMedia Youth News-
A classic news format with stories having impact and influence on Dallas area youth. Teen Perspectives-
A forum of teens discuss topics unscripted amongst themselves. Topics vary from serious to silly.

Teen Talk-

An unscripted show from the vantage point of four teens: Penni Hargrove, Sar-Taria Reddic, Angel Smoot and Gilbert Garza. With topics ranging from Astronomy to fashion, these kids always surprise us with their creativity and enthusiasm.

The Five of Us-

situation comedy written and produced by a local group of teens. Produced with multiple cameras and yes, their own “laugh track.”

Young Producers:

A key component of the Youth Channel’s mission is to offer hands-on training and employment resources to disadvantaged, low-income and minority youth through paid internships. Thirty-two youth ages 9 - 17, (eight per quarter), will be chosen to work as Young Producers with a paid stipend. Interns are recruited from area youth serving within non-profit organizations. The producers will be selected through an application process. The Young Producers will work under the supervision of iMedia’s Network Programmer/Media Education Director with event preparation, administrative tasks, production needs, and ongoing projects. During the 3-month session the Young Producers will be instrumental in developing the content and production of a short documentary featuring their non-profit organization and/or a studio show.
